It's been a back and forth with Nintendo on whether or not the Super Smash Bros. Mewtwo DLC would ever be released as a separate paid offer, but this is no longer the case. With one quick update to its website, Nintendo has turned it all around and confirmed that the character will be purchasable separately as DLC at a future date.

As it stood, the character would only be available to those who purchased both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U version of the game. Way to wait until the day before the game is released to make that known.

The news came through the official Japanese website, translated by Siliconera, which states that Mewtwo will be available at a later unknown date at an unknown price. People who pick up both versions of the game will be getting a code for the free DLC, which will be released sometime in Spring 2015. Our guess is that it will be released separately at least after those fans have had the chance to give their impressions of him.

Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U is available from today. Download it now for your Wii U.
