What happens when you take much a massive phenomenon, like Puzzle & Dragons and its 32 million downloads, and combine it with the most recognizable video gaming character in history?

You get lots and lots of money!

That's Nintendo's and GungHo's belief apparently after the two combined their powers to make this sure-fire hit. Nintendo licensed its most popular character out to GungHo to develop Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition. Yes, this is real. GungHo CEO Kazuki Morishita confirmed the news, but no, this is not Nintendo finally selling out to the mobile market.

Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition will be a Nintendo 3DS exclusive featuring Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, and Yoshi. If you want to play Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition, you'll still have to do so on a Nintendo device.

I still have not gotten swept up in the Puzzle & Dragons yet, but if there was a game to drag me in kicking and screaming, this would be the one to do it. We'll have to wait and see on its availability beyond the borders of Japan.
