The last couple of months have belonged to the Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo’s handheld system has been the best selling video game platform due to its recently stellar first-party software lineup.
In May, Nintendo had Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and Fire Emblem: Awakening to thank for a giant boost in sales. In June? The thanks go to Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
A press release from Nintendo reveals that Animal Crossing: New Leaf was sold, in both digital and physical form, more than 500,000 times. That software push lead to nearly 225,000 Nintendo 3DS units sold during the month of June.
Strong software has helped Nintendo almost double its performance over last year. Here’s a quick blip from the release:
Through the first six months of 2013, Nintendo has sold nearly 3.6 million combined physical and digital units of first-party Nintendo 3DS software, an increase of more than 85 percent over the same time frame last year.
There’s more on the way, too. Nintendo is set to drop The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team before 2013 is over. Oh, yeah, and don’t forget about that little Pokémon that’s releasing globally in October.
