The 2012-13 season of NHL isn't even in its post-season phase, and EA Sports has decided to release the debut trailer for NHL 14.

Of course, it's only April and this game is set to drop in September. The NHL franchise is obviously yearly, so this trailer doesn't really put much on display in the way of brand new features.

It's more of a highlight reel for the shortened 2012-13 NHL season (thanks a lot, you stupid lockout) with splices of upcoming NHL 14 footage interjected throughout. It's still enough for the hockey nuts among us to get excited over.

However, EA Sports linked to a blog post within the description of the trailer. That post details a bunch of changes and features. For instance, a new fighting engine that's built on Fight Night.

Enforcer Engine – There is a code in hockey, when it's broken you have to respond. A first for the NHL franchise, Fight Night technology delivers a new 3rd person experience, physics-based punch targeting and player size differentiation to every fight, creating the most authentic and electrifying experience yet.

Hop over to that post and get the skinny on a few extra new features and changes bound for NHL 14.

NHL 14 also got a release date with this first trailer. Players will be able to lace up for the virtual 2013-14 season starting September 10th, 2013. The only platforms indicated by the trailer are the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
