He said he’d be back and now we know when exactly that will be. The next Terminator movie has been given a release date for July 26, 2019 according to Variety.
Paramount Pictures revealed the date, building upon many new details we’ve been finding out about the movie. What we do know so far is that James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton will be returning; Deadpool’s Tim Miller will direct the project; and the movie will be a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day—by far the best movie in the franchise.
Now that the summer 2019 release date has been set, this also puts to rest the speculation on whether or not the James Cameron’s Avatar sequels would push back the project. Early speculation was for a 2020 release date, but production appear to kicking into high gear with an even quicker release date.
Details about the plot of movie have been far and few in between, but Cameron has stated it will pick up on the Judgement Day storyline, pretty much ignoring the events of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator: Genisys. This was a given with Linda Hamilton returning. The former alluded to her death while the latter rebooted her character entirely.
David Goyer and Josh Friedman are penning the script based on Cameron and Miller’s story. The new movie will be first movie of a planned trilogy.
