Transformer PrimeThe Transformer Prime was a fantastic device, one that introduced the tech-world to what a tablet of the future will be. Today, the folks over at Asus announced that very same device is getting a slight makeover slated to hit sometime in Q2 2012 in North America.

According to Asus, the Transformer Prime TF700T will emphasize entertainment, media, gaming and productivity – all with a new 10.1″ Super IPS+ 1080p HD (1920×1200) capable display. The new resolution bumps it up from the older model of 1280×800. In addition, the back of the new Prime will feature an all new design to fix the old device’s nagging GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi issues. Even with the redesign, the Prime TF700T will fit in the same keyboard dock as the original Prime. The front-facing camera is getting a small upgrade to 2.0 megapixels as well for some good old fashioned video chatting.

The updated Transformer Prime will hit with a bit of a price increase, starting out at $599 and $699 for the 32GB and 64GB models respectively. The best part? The new Prime will come preloaded with Android 4.01, giving this device truly next-gen status.

For early adopters, this a bit of discouraging news. The original Transformer Prime is by no means outdated, but to already know a new version is on its way, the news is a bit difficult to digest.
