Microsoft will launch its latest two-in-one within days, according to a new leak.
The low-cost Surface, which has been in the rumor mill for several weeks, will be released just as students are returning to school. In the leak on Reddit, there’s an individual who claims to have photographed an internal document revealing when sales will begin. Assuming it’s authentic, Microsoft will release the product on July 13.
Aside from making a bold claim about the release date, the insider threw out some specifications. The low-cost Surface might ship with a 10-inch (1800×1200) display, an Intel Pentium processor, up to 8GB of memory, up to 256GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and a USB-C port.
Accessories will be a big part, too. The low-cost Surface should be joined by less expensive keyboards and mice. Since Microsoft is targeting students with this product, affordability is vital.
The leak suggest Microsoft will sell it to education customers for $399, but we don’t know what everyone else has to pay for the base model. It also seems like the top-of-the-line model will go for $829 without accessories. Ultimately, the cost will depend on memory/storage as well as optional accessories and LTE connectivity.
Meanwhile, the same individual says a new Surface Pro will arrive in October. The Surface Laptop won’t get the same treatment and may have to wait until 2019 for a refresh.
With the expected release date happening at the end of the week, the wait for a new Surface is almost over. Be on the lookout because Microsoft could make an announcement at any moment.
