It looks like Nest is ready to roll out a third-generation version of its smart thermostat. Leaked photos of an early test unit obtained by Droid-Life show the device and the inconspicuous box it ships in.

The biggest difference between the rumored new Nest and the current model is the screen. The third-generation model appears to sport a significantly larger round display, though it’s tough to be sure since the device is powered off. The bezels are noticeably thinner as well. Otherwise the design hasn’t changed much.

Under the hood you can probably expect some upgraded specs, along with better sensors and improved software. It’s possible Nest could even introduce some new features. We won’t know for sure until the company makes an official announcement, though it’s likely more leaks will follow this one now that test units are going out.

The new Nest was actually spotted last week cruising through the FCC, though the filing didn’t reveal very much. Hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer to learn more.
