With each passing month, Capcom is dropping more and more hints that Mega Man could be getting a long overdue revival in the coming year. It's been 30 years since the Blue Bomber first launched, and already we have a movie, a cartoon, and merchandise lined up to celebrate the huge occasion.
All we need now is a game, and according to Capcom's latest financial reports, we might just be seeing one before the end of this fiscal year. The sad part, though? It's going to be a mobile title, as confirmed by the section's name in the report, and it's going to be a Japan-focused release. Oh, boo hoo…
For the Japanese market, this fiscal year we plan to strengthen development of games using Capcom IP and release at least 4 new titles, including "Mega Man", "Monster Hunter" and "Sengoku BASARA".
It's not the first time we've heard of a mobile Mega Man game, either. Capcom previously used Mega Man as an example for how it plans to aggressively reorganize its mobile division.
The other two games mentioned in the financial report, Monster Hunter and Sengoku BASARA, are also used as examples when discussing Capcom's restructure efforts.
If you're holding out for Mega Man 11, I wouldn't completely lose hope just yet. Capcom could still be sitting on something special. However, in the meantime, just get ready for the mobile onslaught that will soon be upon us. The night is darkest just before the dawn!
