If you thought Apple’s iPhone was getting overhauled in 2018, you might want to lower those expectations. The Cupertino-based company will do more of the same this year.

The new iPhone models aren’t going to be dramatic upgrades, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Last year’s iPhone X turned out incredible. If Apple can take the iPhone X and make it even better, you won’t hear us complain about too much. Now we’re getting information on what exactly Apple will do with the new iPhone models that could make them appealing for the masses.

Apple will take the iPhone X and tweak it for the next year, Bloomberg reports. The lineup isn’t going to ditch edge-to-edge screens capped by a notch. In 2018, we’ll see all three models carry a notch at the top of their displays.

Not all displays are made equal, however. The 5.8- and 6.5-inch models will boast OLED panels that have curved edges, but Apple’s 6.1-inch model sticks with an LCD panel to remain cost-efficient. Yet there shouldn’t be any differences between their notches — TrueDepth and Face ID are greenlit across the board.

When it comes to their colors, Apple is reportedly set to release an impressive selection. That’s true for the 6.1-inch model, at least. Rumors suggest it’ll be sold in red, white, blue, grey, and orange. It just won’t have any color on the aluminum edges.

Because of the edge-to-edge screens, Apple’s gesture-based navigation will become standard. It arrived in 2017, but the iPhone 8 kept a physical home button while the iPhone X used the next-generation approach.

The names are where Apple could surprise us. Bloomberg has heard that the iPhone models will have ‘S’ attached to their names, but we don’t know what the 6.1-inch model is labeled as. It would join the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Plus. Still, none of the names are completely confirmed yet.

During its hardware-focused event, the new iPhone models should get additional accessories.

The report claims that Apple will announce a new smartwatch, and the still-delayed AirPower is expected as well. There should also be new iPad Pro models with thinner bezels and facial recognition. Meanwhile, the AirPods could be improved in September or at a later time.

Apple’s annual iPhone launch should be held in mid-September. Everything announced should then go up for pre-order that same day or later in the week.
