classic-maps-applicationMaps in iOS 6 isn't all Apple cracked it up to be. But it's not all that bad either and, in fact, Apple is actively improving the app as we speak. With that said, don't be enticed by the new ClassicMap application recently added to the App Store, which promises to recreate the previous Google Maps experience on your iOS device.

The truth is that the free app is nowhere near the quality of Google Maps, or even Apple's own Maps for that matter. Sure, it looks like an authentic recreation, but a number of users are reporting that search is terrible. Specific addresses reportedly work, but simply searching for points of interest (e.g. Starbucks) returns very wrong results. "Searching a local store in NJ, USA put me in South Africa," one commenter said on Cult Of Mac.

In addition to that, it's an extremely basic app. It doesn't offer directions, Street View, public transport and it's allegedly iceberg slow. Props to the author for attempting to capitalize on nostalgia, but this doesn't seem to be the answer. "It's a wrapper for map data culled from elsewhere," Cult Of Mac said. You're better off using Apple Maps, which isn't quite as bad as it's being made out to be.
