At long last, Netflix has finally revealed the first trailer for The Witcher, a new fantasy show based on the series of books by Andrzej Sapkowski.
The first trailer introduces Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia and the dangerous world he inhabits. A synopsis helps flesh out the show's plot:
Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
The footage further establishes the "people are evil" theme with an ominous tagline that says, "The worst monsters are the ones we create."
Judging by the trailer, Netflix's The Witcher strikes a moody balance between action, mystery, and fantasy. And Cavill doesn't look half bad as Geralt, although his white wig is a little distracting; it's certainly a change from his curls as Superman and his mustache as August Walker.
When you watch the trailer, make sure you stay for the end. The Witcher is expected to hit Netflix later this year.
