It’s amazing how this can still be a headline nearly two years after the device first came to us. The often sought, rarely seen NES Classic Edition console will soon be available in GameStop stores around the country, so you best start revving up your engine this very second.
The mini-console will be available on June 29, and GameStop has confirmed that each of its physical stores will have “at least 10 units per store” and will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. Some stores will have more consoles available, but supplies will, naturally, be very limited.
If you are unable to secure one in the store, GameStop will be selling them on its website on June 29, and ThinkGeek will also be joining the retail fun at 9:00 AM EST. No bundles, no nonsense, and limited to one per customer.
At least one retailer out there knows what’s up. The NES Classic will sell for $59.99.
Why are your keys not in the ignition yet?! This is the NES Classic!
You’re going to be so out of practice for this year’s Game Boy Classic or Nintendo 64 Classic, and then you’ll be really stuck!
The NES Classic is a sweet little bargain that houses 30 of the most beloved, and some not so beloved, 8-bit classics. The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros. 3, Kirby’s Adventure, Mega Man 2, they can all be yours if you get out and line up on June 29.
Now that Nintendo has killed Virtual Console and will make you pay a subscription for all of your classic favorites, making them available when they deem fit no less, the NES Classic and the SNES Classic are the most legitimate ways to ensure that at least some of the old games you want to play will always be there. Don’t let a draconian Netflix-style of rotation get in the way of your retro gaming habits!
