Making two of the PlayStation 3's most popular new franchises has turned Naughty Dog into Sony's favorite child, it would seem. The developer of Uncharted and The Last of Us has just received 120 new PlayStation 4 development kits, and it is primed and ready to make a jump into the next generation. Co-President Christophe Balestra has the delivery front and center on his Twitter account.
Naughty Dog teased it was already hard at work on a new PlayStation 4 game at Gamescom this year, but nothing else about the project is known. No hints were given as to whether Naughty Dog would be continuing the success of its previous creations or embarking on the adventure of creating an all new IP destined for PlayStation 4 exclusivity.
History has shown that Naughty Dog has created one franchise at the beginning of each PlayStation cycle, and with the exception of The Last of Us, it has stuck to that franchise throughout the generation. Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, and finally Uncharted ate up a bulk of the development team's time during its existence.
I'm hoping history repeats itself and Naughty Dog creates something awesome with the rock star freedom it's been given lately. The team is reaching for new heights and is certain to outdo its previous games with the better technology available.
