The New York Auto Show is currently under way at the Javitz Center. While there were many contenders, this is our Top 5 list of vehicles debuted at the Big Apple. Buckle Up!
5. Jaguar F-Type
The Jaguar F-Type has me especially excited as it was announced, but not shown, here in New York. The photo above shows what the convertible coupe will look like, minus the “F-Type” camouflage. The F-Type is expected to have a top speed of over 180 mph and do the 0-60 sprint in under 5 seconds. The Jaguar F-Type is the spiritual successor to the legendary E-Type and I can’t wait to see it in action, camouflage free.
4. Travis Pastrana’s RallyCross Dodge Dart
The Dodge Dart is shaping up to be a very good car indeed. But most of us, including SRT, wanted more horses under the hood. That includes Mr. Travis Pastrana. So, SRT boosted the horsepower to 600HP and raised the torque to 550 ft.-lbs for the infamous Number 199. Travis’ Dart also has 4-wheel drive and a sequential gearbox. We’ll just have to wait for the Global RallyCross Championship in order to catch a glimpse of this gnarly little machine.
3. 2014 Chevrolet Impala
Finally, a Chevrolet Impala I don’t fall asleep looking at! There’s a reason for the Impala’s fresh looks, as Chevy has to battle the hot new Ford Taurus. Chevy is offering the Impala with a 195HP 4-cylinder, 182HP 4-cylinder hybrid or 306HP V6 engine, paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The new Impala also has a flowing, swanky interior. There has been no announced pricing for the 2014 Impala yet, as the car is fairly distant from production, but I would expect it to match the new Ford Taurus’s price tag.
2. 2013 Mercedes Benz SL65 AMG
Torque. This beast has so much it hurts. 738 ft.-lbs. to be precise, coupled with 621HP from a 6.0-liter twin turbo V12, and a 7-speed automatic gearbox to handle all this thrust. The Mercedes Benz SL65 AMG is 254 pounds lighter than the outgoing version and has stop-start technology. The interior is nothing short of excellent, as usual with a Mercedes Benz of this caliber. Expect a price tag north of $200,000 to spank wallets far and wide.
1. 2013 SRT Viper
Sing praises to the heavens, the Viper has returned, known officially as the SRT Viper. This monster packs an 8.4-liter V10 that makes 640HP, or just enough to knock the Corvette ZR1 off the American Horsepower throne. The SRT Viper has a 6-speed manual transmission, so purists rejoice. The styling has been revamped too, showing some sexy Italian influence. The front of the new snake is more sleek, while the rear is a throwback to the original SRT Viper. The 2013 SRT Viper also has Traction Control and Cruise Control for the first time ever, making the monster much easier to live with. Start your engines!
