The 4G LTE update is now available for Verizon Motorola Xoom owners, and already upgraded tablets will be available at Verizon stores and online starting October 13.

Already have a Xoom?
If you already have a Motorola Xoom, to score your upgrade you'll have to part with your tablet for about a week while Motorola updates your device. Current owners who signed up to get email alerts from Motorola about the update should be getting that magical email today. If you didn't sign up for alerts (or haven't gotten your email yet) you can go to this part of Motorola's site to get the low down on what to do.

Current customers who are rocking a 3G data plan currently won't have to change their data plans in order to use the 4G capabilities of their tablet once it's been upgraded.

Verizon claims customers should see download speeds of 5 to 12 Mbps with a 4G-updated Xoom, and upload speeds in the neighborhood of 2 to 5 Mbps.

The update is definitely good news for early adopters of the Xoom who have been patiently waiting for months for the update to happen. What about for those of you who don't currently own a Xoom? Anyone thinking about picking one up now that the 4G version is available?
