Motorola Droid RAZR Unboxed

One of the biggest brand names in cell phone history, the Motorola Razr, has finally made its triumphant return. The clamshell device once devoured by consumers was a perennial power player in the developing mobile industry, but today’s smartphones have taken over. Now that Motorola is beginning a new chapter with the popular Razr brand, can they recapture their past success? The company has sure done a lot to hype it up, although I’m not so sure the average consumer knows much about it judging from the device’s teaser ad campaign.

In any case, phone releases don’t get much bigger, Buffalo, and expectations for the device could not be higher. Can it stand out in an increasingly fierce and unforgiving market?

If you’re reading this, it means it’s 11:11 am on 11-11-11 (if you’re on the west coast, it’s only 8:11 am, but you can keep reading!), and the Motorola Droid Razr is now available to Verizon Wireless customers for $299.99 with two-year contract.

The world’s thinnest smartphone (7.1mm thick) is bringing with it a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED screen, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 4G LTE, Gorilla Glass and tough Kevlar build materials. Oh, and Motorola said the phone is protected by a “splash guard,” so you skeptics out there have some testing to do.

We did an unboxing earlier this week and also posted a gallery as part of our new Visualized series, so catch up on those in case you missed them. Once we’re satisfied we’ve pushed the phone to its limits, we’ll be sure to let you know if it lives up to the Razr moniker in our full video review.
