Now we know a little more about the upcoming Motorola Atrix 2. This is my next has gotten its hands on the press photos and a few of the official specs for the handset, which will reportedly be called the Atrix 2, not Motorola Edison like some rumors had suggested.

Spec-wise TIMN says the handset will have a 4.3-inch qHD display, 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixel camera with LED flash, and 8GB of built-in storage that is expandable to 40GB via microSD. Motorola claims the handset will get 8.5 hours of talk time and 15.9 days of standby on a single charge.

The Atrix 2 will also support Webtop like the original Atrix; although it will use a new “Lapdock 100” dock which sports a slightly updated design – the most notable update being the new version of the dock will shrink from 11.6-inch to a slightly smaller 10.1-inch The handset also connects to the dock in a slightly different way, using a cable to make the connection rather the simply pressing the phone into the back of the device. Rumor has it the dock will also be used for the Droid RAZR and possibly other handsets, so the new design will make the dock a little more universal.

I for one am pretty pumped about Motorola making the lapdock smaller. I currently own the original Atrix and a lapdock. The idea behind the lapdock is you would tote that around rather than a laptop, but the large form factor of the dock makes it make more sense to bring along a netbook or even my regular full-powered laptop rather than carry around a dock that is just as large as my traditional computer but not as powerful.

What do you think? Are any of you planning on getting an Atrix 2?
