Back in Aug., everyone’s favorite mobile leaker @evleaks revealed the Moto X’s price would drop to $99 and Motorola would finally offer the option to choose a wood back for an extra $50 this fall. Well, the Moto X now costs $99 through the Moto Maker and as little as $50 from some sources. It’s Nov. and still no wooden smartphones, so what gives?
Responding to complaints that the wooden option still hasn’t materialized, @evleaks shared a alleged photo of the Moto Maker website with four wood panels—Teak, Ebony, Rosewood and Bamboo—on display in the “Styling” tab. The first three choices are listed as Coming Soon, while Bamboo is apparently delayed, suggesting the fourth option could take even longer to arrive.
We had a chance to try out the wooden Moto X back in Aug. when the device first launched and came away unsure what to think of the bizarre customization option. If you really want to be the first on your block with a wood paneled phone, then you might want to sit around just a bit longer. It looks like the launch is just around the corner.
