Motorola's upcoming "designed by you" smartphone experiment, Moto X, will be available on all four major U.S. carriers this fall, according to sources close to the project. This will be the company's first big flagship device in 2013, meaning it'll also come with an enormous marketing campaign, backed by Google, upwards of $500 million. Get ready for an incessant onslaught of Moto X TV commercials, magazine ads and more.
The biggest draw will be the device's customization options. Want it to be blue? Sure. Or red? Sure. Or both? Yes. Motorola, it seems, hopes to align the device as an accessory as much as a smartphone. It's a statement that says, "This is me," in whatever colors you decide. Another big potential selling point is the near-absence of carrier bloatware, the Wall Street Journal said.
Many of the device's details are still unclear, though it's been one of the more talked about in the mobile space this year. Seeing as Motorola has yet to announce anything big in 2013, plenty of focus will be on Moto X; the company's CEO has said it'll be comparable to today's big handsets, such as the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S4. As we get closer to the Moto X's arrival, we'll likely hear more info, so stay tuned.
