It appears that the next budget phone to arrive from Motorola will carry the moniker of the Moto E.
According to a report from Xataka México, one of the rumored Motorola phones from a leak last week will be known as the Moto E. When the previous report surfaced we only know the three phones by their model numbers – XT 1021, XT 1022 and XT 1025 – but it now appears that we at least have a name to call one of them by.
According to the report, Motorola’s Moto E will feature a 4.3-inch display at 720p, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, a 5-megapixel camera and a 1900mAh battery. Where things become a little confusing is that all three phones that were leaked only under their model numbers all had the same specs, so we’re left to wonder if it is actually the same phone across all three, but just feature different model numbers for different regions. As it stands right now, we don’t know which one lines up exactly with the Moto E.
The new Moto E, if the report is authentic, will sell for $230 off contract, which definitely makes it an affordable handset for a lot more people.
The Moto G has had quite a bit of success through out Latin America, so it isn’t too surprising that Motorola would be looking to launch a follow-up that could appeal to an even larger market segment. Mexico is also the currently exclusive market for the Moto G Forte – the Moto G essentially in a rugged case – so it’s obvious that the company is putting a lot of resources into the region.
Hopefully we’ll hear more about the Moto E in the coming weeks.
