Well, Mortal Kombat fans, I hope you like System of a Down, because the launch trailer for Mortal Kombat X comes seeping with style from that band.

First, the tune behind the trailer is “Chop Suey!,” a track that released during my high school years and defined the culture for a ton of kids in my graduating class. Never did like the song, but I suppose it works in this trailer.

Why does it work? Ah, that’s the next bit. The launch trailer for Mortal Kombat X not only features System of a Down’s “Chop Suey!,” it was directed by the band’s bassist Shavo Odadjian. I imagine fans of the overlapping pieces of media are pretty excited about all this.

For those folks here’s a brief official clip of Odadjian talking about creating the trailer from NetherRealm Studios.

Mortal Kombat X may have it’s official launch trailer, but the game doesn’t come out until April 14. That’s when it hits the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC platforms. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game won’t release until June 2, 2015. We’ll have more on this one as it comes.

For now, what do you think of the launch trailer?
