I suspected Inafune wasn't telling the entire truth when he let his huge TGS announcement slip a few days early. He's not the type to so easily give into pressure.

Earlier in the week, the Mega Man creator revealed that his TGS surprise would be a zombie game with mechs and ninjas called Yaiba. What he forgot to mention however is that his independent video game company, Comcept, is working with in tandem with Tecmo Koei and Team Ninja to develop the game as a cel-shaded side-series to Tecmo's long running Ninja Gaiden series.

The latest trailer reveals the entire title, Yaiba Ninja Gaiden Z, and shows off more ninjas than zombies this time around. The game's protagonist, Yaiba, is a ninja hot on the trails of Ninja Gaiden's protagonist, Ryu Hayabusa. Poor Yaiba is defeated in a dual, left for dead, and resurrected in an airship belonging to the badguys Ryu often finds himself at odds with. Blinded by his hatred for Ryu, he probably doesn't realize he's just being used in a sinister plot to take Hayabusa down.

Beyond that, exactly what Ninja Gaiden and zombies have in common together, I have no clue, but there is certainly a lot more to come from this exciting partnership. Inafune himself descried it as a "dream come true."

Tecmo hasn't given any further details other that it will be released for "consoles." Exactly which console has yet to be found out, but with so little time left in this generation, this could be an early look at what the next has in store for us.
