Apple China

China Unicom will begin offering the iPhone 5 on December 14 and the carrier began accepting pre-orders on Monday. More than 100,000 customers have placed orders for the device already, Sina Tech reported recently. The carrier’s customers only need to provide an ID and few other tidbits of information in order to reserve the iPhone 5. China Unicom is the second largest carrier in the China. Its competitor, China Telecom, had more than 5,000 pre-orders for the iPhone 5. The iPad mini and fourth generation iPad will be available later this week, on Dec. 7th, in China.

Apple’s iPhone 5 will be a huge driver for the company’s market share in the country. As of November, Apple’s smartphone market share had fallen to fifth place behind major competitors that offer more affordable handsets, including Samsung, Lenovo, Yulong Computer Telecommunication Scentific (Coolpad), ZTE and Huawei.
