I've been playing Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate in between shifts of replaying Majora's Mask 3D on my New Nintendo 3DS XL since the middle of last week. It's quite a game, and it packs more content than I can even handle. The scary thing? My friends are about to get the game so that we can roll in multiplayer.

They're sort of new to the Monster Hunter franchise, so I'll be winging this video their way. It's an official "tutorial" from Nintendo, but let's call it what it really is: an introduction to the mechanics in Monster Hunter. It doesn't teach users how to do anything.

Monster Hunter, if you're new to this whole thing, is essentially a really great take on a gameplay loop. Get quest, explore area, kill monster, fulfill quest, return to town, upgrade gear, get another quest… and… repeat. It's rewarding, it's well-balanced and it's a lot of fun in groups.

This video demonstrates some of what makes that gameplay loop work so darn well.
