I was in meetings last week where several of us thought Google Glass could end up being as awkward looking as someone walking down the street wearing a Bluetooth headset. The fashion industry may be trying to change that perspective, however. Fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg (DVF) recently sent models to the runway wearing Google Glass as part of the Palazzo sprint collection during New York City’s fashion week.

“I am so excited to introduce Glass to the fashion world and use this revolutionary technology to give everyone a unique perspective into fashion,” von Furstenberg said. Google is just as excited. “Beauty, style and comfort are as important to Glass as the latest technology,” Google’s co-founder and head of Project Glass Sergey Brin said. As you’ll note from several of the images, the models were outfitted with several colors of Google Glass that were created to match parts of the outfit they were wearing. We were able to spot white, blue and neon-red colored Google Glass devices and, from the fashion designer’s Google+ page, it appears all were functional during the event.

Google Glass is likely several years out from being an affordable mass consumer product, but we’re glad Google is branching away from making it a product just for geeks and getting it on the fashion circuit’s radar as soon as possible. Check out the gallery below for additional images.

Oh, and as a reminder, we’re in the early testing group for Google Glass so stay tuned for more information as it’s made available.
