Given the discussion in a recent interview with Shigeru Miyamoto, the father of all sorts of gaming classics and staples at Nintendo, there's a chance gamers might see a fresh take on or remake of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
The legendary game designer spoke with EDGE about his love for the original game and about how he'd like to see more from it. There's the chance that Nintendo makes a simple port. There's also this:
"I think I'd be even more interested in creating something new maybe based on, or starting from, A Link To The Past. I think it's important to bring some really new software…"
Miyamoto then went on to explain that his preference in which avenue the game takes would be based on who is free within Nintendo's ranks.
"To be very honest and open, it really depends on the directors that have time at the moment as well…Some directors, I can give them the title and I know they will do something great with it.
Other directors I'm not so 100 per cent confident [in], so they're the ones I'd rather take a more remake approach to the title. It really depends on that as well."
If you frequent this site, then you might already know that I have a soft spot in my heart for A Link to the Past. Alongside Wind Waker for the Game Cube, the Super Nintendo title is one of my favorite in the Zelda line.
To see the original game either remade for the Nintendo 3DS or added upon with a strong sequel would be incredible. Assuming, of course, that Nintendo doesn't do anything to mess with the brilliance of the original. That would be the determining factor regarding how this potentially port, remake or re-visitation would be received.
