The Mission: Impossible franchise has been going strong for 22 years now and it shows no signs of stopping. The most recent addition to the series, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, is ensuring this by completely winning over critics, according to the movie's Rotten Tomatoes score.
Accounting for 49 reviews so far, Mission: Impossible – Fallout has a sterling Rotten Tomatoes score of 96-percent. That makes it the best reviewed movie of the summer, beating the likes of Incredibles 2 (93-percent), Ant-Man and the Wasp (86-percent) and Avengers: Infinity War (83-percent). For that matter, it's trending as one of the best reviewed movies of the year.
More so, it's also ranking as the best reviewed entry in the franchise, besting what is widely considered the pinnacle of the Mission: Impossible movies—Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and its 93-percent score.
Here's how it stacks up against the other movies in the franchise:
- Mission: Impossible – 62%
- Mission: Impossible 2 – 57%
- Mission: Impossible III – 70%
- Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol – 93%
- Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation – 93%
- Mission: Impossible – Fallout – 96%
As opposed to most franchises that begin to wane as they enter the latter movies, Mission: Impossible is trending up and has been for some time.
Some of the praise critics are tossing at the movie are for its elaborate and exhilarating action set pieces, Tom Cruise's portrayal of Ethan Hunt at 56 years of age and director Christopher McQuarrie's mastery of the action genre. Some are even calling it one of the best action movies in the past decade, comparing it to landmark films like Mad Max: Fury Road.
You can see for yourself how great Mission: Impossible – Fallout is when it opens July 27.
