Office Mac 2008

As with most software support life cycles, all good things must come to an end.  And for Microsoft Office for Mac 2008, April 9, 2013 is that day. Office for Mac 2008 users will be able to download current updates until April 19, 2014, but no new updates will pushed to 2008 users after Tuesday.

Microsoft explains its product support lifecycle policy and just so happens that 2008 was 5 years ago and falls in line with Microsoft’s policy. So consider that when purchasing your next copy of Microsoft Office.

Microsoft suggests 2008 users upgrade to Office 2011 or purchase an Office 365 subscription. Office 2011 retails for $139.99 (students) and $219.99 (Home and Business) while Office 365 will run you about $100 a year or $10 a month, but with Office 365 you will receive Office 2011 and get access to the latest version of Office when the time comes.

Of course you can continue to operate Office 2008, you just wont be up to date on the latest features or have the most recent patches that usually are tied to security flaws.
