Gaming industry analyst Michael Pachter is at it once again. Gamers love to hate this guy, and his predictions range from accurate to a little crazy. Whatever the case, they’re always great fodder for discussion. Which brings us to his latest quote concerning the Xbox One.
Pachter’s made predictions surrounding the lifetime sales of each new console. He places the PlayStation 4 ahead of the Xbox One, and the Xbox One way ahead of the Wii U.
Speaking at the Game Monetization USA Summit in San Francisco, Pachter said that “the reason Sony beats Microsoft is solely the price.” The Xbox One is $100 more expensive than the PlayStation 4, and here’s how Pachter follows that up.
“Microsoft loses the next generation unless they cut price. If Microsoft drops its price to $399, I expect the sales to be equal to the PS4.”
While I think it’s a little crazy to declare generation winners less than a month after two of the consoles’ launches, I do think Pachter is right about price points. In fact, I wrote about that $100 difference before either machine launched.
Is $100 the difference between these two machines right now? If they were priced the same, how do you think Sony and Microsoft would stack up with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in terms of sales?
