You will be happy to know Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes looks fabulous as a late console release. A recent bunch of screenshots shows how great the Fox Engine looks on the current consoles, and provides an even better look into the future with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain getting a boosted version on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

What you might not be glad to hear about is that Hideo Kojima hasn’t backed down to fan demand for veteran voice actor David Hayter. In an interview with the gaming auteur, Game Informer posed the question about Kojima’s reaction to David Hayter being publicly upset on being passed over for his iconic role. Kojiima replied.

For this game, I wanted to have the full motion capture and full performance capture, however I realized I would have to be in Los Angeles for about a year, which was impossible given the agenda to create the rest of the game. So the motion capture was done with an actor here in Japan and the rest of facial capture and voice performance has been capture in Los Angeles in the U.S. with Keifer [Sutherland]. However if there is another Metal Gear, I’m not sure if I’m going to be in charge of it or not, it’s going to be probably be 3D capture, meaning it will be the whole thing with one person. It would be impossible by then to have one actor only for voice and another actor for the rest of the elements, so in that way I think it was also a good opportunity to make a shift for this character.

Hideo Kojima not only participated David Hayter being passed up, but won’t even mention his feelings about the man who made his game accessible to Western gamers. Instead, he dodged the question and blamed motion capture technology.

Hayter’s asking price, Hollywood celebrity recognition, and Snake retaining the same Japanese voice actor has nothing to do with it, making the character shift a Western shift only. No, it’s just the motion capture.

Any thoughts on David Hayter being left out of the new Metal Gear Solid games? The man is Solid Snake, and the series wouldn’t be where it is today without his excellent acting and tireless promotion of the series.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes will be released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
