The mark left by Hideo Kojima on video games is indelible. I make fun of him for how crazy his stories get, but the truth is I adore his work. When games like Bad Dudes had ninjas kidnapping the president, Kojima was already bringing full fledged stories into Metal Gear, with intrigue and betrayal. When Metal Gear Solid came along, he was one of the first to show us how a cinematic video game should be done.

It makes sense, then, that some people in pretty famous positions would have things to say about the man.

In this video, posted on Konami’s official YouTube channel, a variety of creators line up to give praise to one of gaming’s most interesting directors. Some have worked intimately with him – Kiefer Sutherland (Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid V), Harry Gregson-Williams (Composer, Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, 4 and 5), Ryuhei Kitamura (Director, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes), Guillermo del Toro (P.T./Silent Hills).

Others, though, seem to be fans more than anything else. Avi Arad, producer on tons of Marvel films, and Shinya Tsukamoto, director of cult film Tetsuo: The Iron Man, both have positive things to say. There are quite a few gaming names in there as well, including Cliff Bleszinski (co-founder of Epic Games and Boss Key) and Vince Zampella (Infinity Ward, Respawn Entertainment) who are especially qualified to talk about the director’s impact.

This is Konami’s first real acknowledgement of Kojima in a while, and it’s good to see so many big names coming out to say good things about one of gaming’s most fascinating people.
