Mercenary Kings is a tongue in cheek combination of modern day customization and the run n’ gun formula from days of yore. A perfect blend of violence and violence wrapped up in a nice coating of violence.
Knives, guns, rocket launchers, bullets used as jetpacks, flamethrowers. Each of these gorgeous weapons comes designed by the player for maximum effectiveness in line with their own playing style. Those head shots in the trailer are amazing, with some being pulled off with imaginative weapons.
Of course, the game developers get their own say in how the game rolls out too with good old fashioned level design and huge bosses with combat patterns and strengths which need to be memorized.
If developer Tribute Games could play up the cheekiness of this hilarious mayhem aimed at all generations of gamers, I’d like to see how they plan to do so. In the meantime, this new trailer features a fun little song called “Good Cop, Bad Cop” by Prom Queen, and it fits the tone perfectly of the ironic humor that Mercenary Kings is going for.
The game is already available through Early Access on Steam, and it is expect to see a full release on both PC and PlayStation 4 by the end of the year.
