Capcom has announced the Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 , bringing to close questions on whether or not it would follow up on excellent, original bundle. This new bundle will contain the remaining games from the classic series, Mega Man 7, 8, 9, and 10.
The bundle will be released for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on Aug 8.
Not without controversy, not without explanation
Once again, fans are sure to point out the shortcomings rather than the just appreciate that Mega Man is still viable in the modern world. Two issues pop into mind when I see this bundle.
One, you're getting four games rather than six, the number in the previous bundle. This is true, but there simply aren't any other games left. Mega Man stopped at ten games, and Capcom doesn't want to include Mega Man X since it will probably release those in its own collection. The exclusion of Mega Man & Bass is weird, but we also only ever got the Game Boy Advance port of that. It's probably not in Capcom's gameplan to boost a GBA game into high-res or localize a Super Nintendo game in this day and age.
Two, the collection isn't coming to the Nintendo 3DS, which was my choice of platform with the original Mega Man Legacy Collection. While it sucks, there is also a good explanation in that Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 are both HD games that were released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 originally. The Wii got its own versions of the games, but Capcom would have to really whittle them away to make them playable on a 3DS.
Not likely.
As for the games, they are solid. Mega Man 7 is more fun for the presentation rather than the gameplay. Our hero's Super Nintendo spite is so expressive, and all of his friends bring a lot of character to the story. Mega Man 8 is okay, but it's more memorable for its legendarily bad voice acting. The anime cutscenes probably hold this back from a 3DS release as well.
Mega Man 9 is excellent and probably the best game in the bundle, but Mega Man 10 feels like its "me too!" game.
Should be fun. I'll no doubt pick it up, but only if it comes to the Switch. I don't need to be tied to a television to play Mega Man anymore. Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Aug. 8.
