After someone called it only yesterday, Nintendo has confirmed that it will be breaking into third-party publishers, and the first two non-Nintendo characters to get the stamp of approval will be classic rival Sonic the Hedgehog and none other than the Super Fighting Robot himself, Mega Man!
Sorry Prince Marth, but you've just been replaced as my go-to amiibo figurine.
In an update on the official Japanese amiibo website, followed up by a Twitter post, Nintendo confirmed the next round of amiibo figurines, which also extend to Nintendo's own characters Lucario, Rosalina, Bowser, Toon Link, Sheik, Ike, Meta Knight, DeDeDe, and Shulk. They will be priced at 1,200 yen each and will be released gradually throughout January and February 2015.
No news on an American release for this wave yet, but you can bet they'll be following shortly afterwards. The first wave is set to go on sale on Nov. 21 in America alongside Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U.
