What I Do in the Herd

Write stuff. I write tons of news for the site, as well a good number of opinion pieces, and accessory and toy reviews. I also spend a good bit of time coming up with cool new ways for us to interact with readers and discuss new technology, as well as occasionally do some editing when Sean’s not around.

Best Thing About Being in the Herd:

Getting to talk about new technology everyday, and interact with readers. I try to stay out of the company chat room. Noah and Sean are scary.

Where I Live and Work: Raleigh, NC

When I’m Not Working I’m Into:

I really like to travel to new places, even just a new coffee shop, to experience different things/people. I like to think I’m a good photographer, and take pictures whenever I have the opportunity (particularly of live music). I also love the NHL, and nerd out about craft beer (mostly IPAs). I probably know as much about beer as I do technology.

Tech Arsenal

Computer of Choice: 17” MacBook Pro. Awesome computer, but it weighs way too much for travel, so I also have an HP Mini 1000 netbook.

Mobile Phone of Choice: iPhone 3GS and Mototorla Atrix

Gaming System of Choice: Atari 2600. I got it for my 5th birthday, it’s still functional, and still awesome. I also have a Wii that hasn’t been turned on for a while, and a PS2 that’s used more for DVD playing than gaming. I’ve got my eyes on an Xbox 360, so that might happen sooner rather than later.

Other Favorite Gadgets:

Canon XTiThe iPad has recently found a permanent place in my heart, and I keep my Canon Rebel XTi pretty close by. I have the Canon PowerShot SD750 in my purse/pocket constantly. I’ve had the camera forever. The ELPH series of cams is super-sturdy, and way awesome to keep on hand.

Random Tech Top 5: Top 5 Atari Games: 1. Ms. Pac-Man, 2. Galaga, 3. Donkey Kong, 4.Qix, 5. Dig Dug

Gadgets I’m Lusting After: Xbox 360, Kinect,  and an awesome projector that would let me watch movies on the side of my house in the summer even though it’s not pitch black outside.

Surfing the InterWebs

Favorite Web Sites: Techmeme, Mashable, Tecca, Engadget, Facebook, Failblog, I Can Has Cheeseburger.

Web Sites I Don’t Understand: Unboxing videos. On our site, and every other site on the planet. Watching someone take something out of a box has never really done it for me.

What I Did Before TechnoBuffalo: I wrote for PC World,, the Weblogs/AOL software blog Download Squad, and a slew of other sites you’ve probably never heard of. I also was a morning video editor and producer for my local CBS/FOX station for five years. Working the morning shows in news means you come to work between 1am-4am. I kinda miss live news, definitely not the hours.

Worst Job Ever: I was a “Professional Bra Fitter” for JC Penny when I was in high school. It was the first time I ever had business cards, and involved lots of awkward adventures with very old ladies.

Best Job Ever (besides this one):

Hollywood Video

I worked at Hollywood Video like Jon, but I loved it. Free movie rentals? Free game rentals? I was in college at the time, my coworkers were all close friends, and I watched every movie that was released on VHS those few years (ah, VHS). I still own a pretty substantial amount of VHS/DVD/PS2 games I acquired during the years I worked there for bargain-basement prices. I missed out, however, on the tie cumberbun excitement Jon went through.

Random Thing You Don’t Know About Me:

I went to film school, and originally wanted to be a feature film writer/producer.
