It’s been a while since the Disney-Fox merger was announced, and now we’re only months away from possibly seeing the X-Men, Deadpool, and Fantastic Four in the MCU.
Marvel president Kevin Feige was recently on Variety’s Playback Podcast where he provided an update as to where things stand with the Fox characters. He revealed that he had not yet received the go-ahead to begin developing stories for these new properties. However, he had this to say, “It’s looking very, very good and could happen in the first six months of next year.”
A specific date is still not set, though at least now we know when we can expect the X-Men and crew to officially join the MCU. That’s big news as Marvel begins to map out its movie roadmap beyond 2019. With many characters in the MCU expected to make their exit, Marvel is going to need suitable replacements.
Turning to a rebooted X-Men and Fantastic Four while continuing to ride the success of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool sounds like a really good plan. With the current timeline, that means we wouldn’t see an MCU movie with those characters until 2020 at the earliest.
