Marvel has made a standalone movie about a nearly ever major player in the MCU except one: Black Widow. It is a movie fans have been clamoring for years for, yet Marvel had opted to pass on the movie. That was until it begun the process to get the movie made out of the blue by hiring a screenwriter to write the script.

Scarlett Johansson has been kicking ass as Black Widow since Iron Man 2, but now she will apparently get a proper movie to expand her character. According to Variety, Marvel has enlisted screenwriter Jac Schaeffer to write the screenplay for the standalone Black Widow movie.

The report states the project is still in early development. Nothing is definitive at the moment, but this is a very good sign. Coming up with a script for a movie is the first step in getting it made and this is the closest a Black Widow movie has come to being a reality.

Marvel President Kevin Feige reportedly met with multiple writers before choosing Schaeffer to pen a script. Before settling on a screenwriter, Marvel execs met with Johansson to nail down what they wanted from the Black Widow writer.

Marvel’s calendar is pretty full over the next two years as phase three runs its course. After that, the calendar opens up opening the door to see the Black Widow movie as early as 2020. The next movie we’ll see Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow will be in Avengers: Infinity War due out in May.
