Look, we already know that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will look better on the Nintendo Switch than the standard version did on the Wii U. Once again, we have a banner release for the platform that’s a port, designed initially for an underpowered system.

Still, it’s nice to see the new version in motion against the original, and that’s what the folks at IGN put together in this quick video.

It looks nearly the same. Things are perhaps a touch crisper and colors are slightly more vivid on the Nintendo Switch, but this looks super similar to the Mario Kart 8 we had on the Wii U.

This was already a beautiful game

That’s the thing, though… Mario Kart 8 was one of the Wii U’s best-looking titles. It was gorgeous in motion. The Nintendo Switch might not have been able to do much more with the game beyond rendering the already beautiful objects in a higher resolution.

Also, this is a port. Again. Just like Zelda, we’re looking at a game designed initially for a different platform. I don’t think we’ll have a good idea of the Nintendo Switch’s capabilities until we see Super Mario Odyssey later this year.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will launch on April 28, 2017.
