So far, Mario Kart 8 has been nothing but the major hit Nintendo wanted it to be. The game confirmed itself to be a console seller, and after being on the market for just shy of a month, it even managed to cross the 2 million unit mark. Nintendo revealed them impressive figure during its 74th Annual Shareholders Meeting this Friday in Kyoto, Japan.
With about 6 million Wii U units out there in the world, that gives Mario Kart 8 an attachment rate of about 33 percent. That’s insane!
Sales have slowed down since the first weekend off the starting line when it sold 1.2 million. As the Wii U’s library of software grows and the sales of the console hopefully pick up, you can expect Mario Kart 8 to grow just as well. It’s a quality racing game worthy of being the face of a console.
If you haven’t picked up Mario Kart 8 yet for your Wii U, just remember that you can still get a free game from Club Nintendo alongside it or the remainder of July. I nabbed myself a complimentary Wind Waker HD, but you can also choose from a fine selection of Pikmin 3, New Super Mario Bros. U, and Wii Party U.
