Mafia III launches today on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. We’re playing it on the PC, and the game is locked up tight at 30fps instead of 60 or, let’s just go crazy here, uncapped.

The good news? 2K knows. They issued an announcement that they’re already working on a patch to address the problem. The game’s early PC reviews have slammed it for the cap, though, so this really should have been handled ahead of launch.

The developer has a patch working in the studio that features 30fps, 60fps and unlimited frames per second options in its menu. Here’s 2K’s statement:

We currently have a patch running here at the studio that includes 30, 60, and unlimited frames-per-second options in the video menu, among other improvements for the PC version of Mafia III. We’re verifying the patch now to ensure everything is working as expected. If everything goes well, we expect the update to go live this weekend. We will be keeping the PC community up-to-date on the status of the patch throughout the weekend and thank you for all the feedback!

Knock them for releasing the game capped at 30fps, no doubt. Kudos to them for immediately admitting there was an issue and working to get a patch out to consumers as soon as possible.

Should they have just delayed the release a week? I don’t know if that’s feasible given the cost to remarket the game’s new launch date, quite honestly.
