Kotaku's Japanese arm has run a report that Sony has released an official guidebook for the PS Vita's software to game shops in Japan. That book has a list that details which PS Vita games will require users to have external memory in order to save games.
At launch, some games will feature internal save slots, while others will not. This is the reported list of games that will require use of Sony's proprietary external memory cards:
- Uncharted: Golden Abyss
- Monster Radar
- Riiiiiiiidge Racer
- Hot Shots Golf 6
- Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention
- Dream Club Zero Portable
Keep in mind, folks, that not all of these games have been confirmed for an eventual release outside of Japan.
While price points for the memory cards have not been discussed for non-Japanese regions, we've covered the cost before here on TechnoBuffalo. To give you a rough idea of what you'll need to spend in order to lock down some extra storage space, here's what we printed before: "The proprietary cards will be distributed from 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB and will cost roughly between $30 and $130."
With that, we turn to the herd for a question that should lead to some discussion. Uncharted: Golden Abyss is definitely one of the banner launch titles for the PS Vita, but one could argue that this roster of games features several of the best titles launching for Sony's new portable. Given that fact, will you folks be spurred to buy a memory card for the system at launch?
The PS Vita itself is priced at $250. Let's assume that Sony slots the PS Vita games at either $40 or $50 (fingers-crossed for $40). In order to snag the base system, one game and a base memory card, you'll need to spend around $325. Is that cheap, just right or too much?
The PS Vita will sell in Japan on December 17th of this year. It was recently announced that the portable will see release outside of Japan on February 22nd, 2012.
