Brace yourselves, fellow nerds. Square Enix has just dropped what will likely be the most geektastic thing you'll see today.
Leading up to the impending launch of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix decided to do a recap of what's happened in the series so far. Rather than boring text or a traditional trailer, some brilliant mind(s) decided to go retro. The trailer was made in 16-bit (with 8-bit music, oddly enough).
We received a link to the video by way of email this morning. In that note was this description of the trailer from Square Enix.
The scope of FINAL FANTASY XIII's mythology is so massive it could only be fully told across three games, and the saga will finally reach its conclusion on February 11, 2014. In this latest trailer, players will be able to look back on the stories of FINAL FANTASY XIII and FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 that shaped Lightning into the heroine she is today, as she and a band of unlikely heroes came together to save the world.
In LIGHTNING RETURNS: FINAL FANTASY XIII, it all ends here.
We're slated to receive a review build of Lightning Returns soon, so expect our coverage of the game in the weeks to come.
