Optimus 4X HD

LG's first quad-core smartphone, first codenamed the X3, will reportedly be called the Optimus 4X HD when it hits store shelves. LG is largely expected to reveal the phone during next week's Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain. Pocketnow first revealed the name on Wednesday and also said the device will pack a 4.7-inch display with a sharp 720p HD resolution, support for 21Mbps HSPA+ networks and an 8-megapixel camera.

The South Korea-based phone maker has already revealed four other smartphones that will launch during next week's trade show, including three L-Series Android devices and the brand new Optimus 3D Max smartphone. The Optimus 4X HD will obviously be LG's star of its MWC offering, but it could face competition from HTC if it, too, decides to reveal a quad-core smartphone. Unfortunately, it appears that Samsung will mostly be sitting on the sidelines this year, as the company does not have a press conference scheduled and all whispers of the launch of a quad-core Galaxy S III have fallen silent.
