Verizon Wireless announced two new phones from LG on Thursday, including the Exalt and the Enact.
The Exalt is a flip phone with very basic specs, including a 2-megapixel camera, a 3-inch display with a 400 x 240-pixel resolution and access to Verizon’s slower CDMA network. It has a unique feature on the outside that allows for alerts to be displayed on a matrix of lights. Oddly, despite the super basic specs, it comes with a somewhat high price tag. It’s available for $199.99 off contract, or for $79.99 with a new two-year agreement. Most people are going to be better served by a smartphone, which can be purchased for the same price or for even cheaper.
Meanwhile, the LG Enact, which leaked yesterday, is a smartphone that’s the better choice of the two. It’s available online today for $19.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and offers a full QWERRTY keyboard, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, a 4-inch 800 x 400-pixel display, HD video recording, a 5-megapixel camera, a VGA front-facing camera, a 2,460mAh battery and 8GB of expandable storage. It also runs on Verizon’s 4G LTE network.
We really have no idea why the Exalt needs to exist at this point. It’s a decent choice for people avoiding smartphones and data plans, but it’s otherwise a throwback to about 5 years ago.
