Last week Lenovo pulled two 8-inch Windows tablets from U.S. shelves, sparking reports the company had given up on selling smaller Windows slates in America. The truth may not be quite so simple though. In a statement this weekend the company said it's simply regrouping, and plans to launch a new 8-inch Windows tablet later this year in the U.S. and around the world.
In the short term you won't be able to buy a smaller Windows slate from Lenovo in the U.S., but the company says it plans to launch new 8-inch and 10-inch models in time for the holiday season. Lenovo previously said the ThinkPad 10 was doing pretty well with American customers, and in the latest statements said that it even sold out of the Miix 8-inch Windows tablet. "In short, we will continue to sell both 8 and 10 inch Windows tablets in both the U.S. and non-U.S markets," the firm said.
Based on this statement alone, the company isn't ready to give up on the U.S. market just yet, even if other companies are shying away from producing smaller Windows tablets. We're still waiting for Microsoft to unveil its long-rumored Surface Mini, though in the meantime Lenovo's upcoming 8-inch tablet will have to do.
