Lenovo - Buys Motorola - 2 Billion - 004

Lenovo is set to announce a "major acquisition" on Thursday, and some reports are suggesting that it will involve purchasing Motorola from Google for $3 billion.

According to a report from China Daily, Lenovo has made a deal to purchase Motorola Mobility from Google. Various reports are suggesting the price will land somewhere between $2 and $3 billion.

China Daily contacted Lenovo for comment, and the company would only state that it's upcoming announcement would regard a "major acquisition."

Google purchased Motorola in 2011 for $12.5 billion, so it's unclear why the company would why want to take such a large loss on the company after only two and a half years. While Motorola hasn't blown up in the mobile space, the Moto X and Moto G have received good reviews and it seemed like there were many more things coming down the line.

TechnoBuffalo has reached out to both Lenovo and Motorola for comment, but neither company had a spokesperson available at this time.

We'll have more on this as it develops in the coming days.
