Remember when we used to imagine living in our video games? With primitive graphics like those on the NES and SNES, our imaginations filled in the gaps and actually challenged us to think. Those were the days before developers crammed term-of-the-week lingo like "immersion" down our throats.
Well, Nintendo is still rockin' like it's 1992, and they have a new live action TV spot for The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds to prove it. A hapless gamer stumbles on the land of Hyrule and is sent on an adventure to contend with flaming arrows and cheap green screen backgrounds. Add a dash of Raiders of the Lost Ark just for good measure.
It's wonderfully cheesy and does everything right that a true Nintendo game commercial should, and not in a creepy way like those Pokemon X and Y commercials Nintendo has going around.
Live action is also a cheap alternative to showing off the low-resolution of the Nintendo 3DS, and it's a far more welcome solution than seeing the gameplay blown up on a massive HDTV for 30 seconds. Just keep that in mind the next time you're seeing a 3D commercial. The alternative could be this.
Try watching that for ten seconds without shutting it off in embarrassment. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds will be released for the Nintendo 3DS on Nov. 22.
