A new press photo for the Galaxy Note 7 has leaked out early, giving us our best look so far at Samsung's next flagship phablet. According to the reliable source, this is the only version of the device we will see in early August, with no flat model currently planned.

"There is just one single Galaxy Note7 model — one whose dual-curved-edge screen in past years would have seen Samsung brand it as the Galaxy Note7 edge," writes reliable tipster Evan Blass (@evleaks) for VentureBeat. "This time around, however, the curved screen model will be the star of the show; there is no, in popular parlance, Note7 "flat.""

That's despite a recent photo leak, which appeared to show a Galaxy Note 7 without those curves. However, we had suspected this was likely an early prototype device that was scrapped when Samsung decided to concentrate on curved glass.

The leaked press photo also gives us a glimpse at the Galaxy Note 7's new S Pen. It looks almost identical to the Galaxy Note 5's stylus, but we can only hope that Samsung has learned its lesson and made it so that the S Pen doesn't get stuck if you insert it into the device the wrong way.

Blass predicts that if the Galaxy Note 7 is a success, it will have implications for the rest of the smartphone industry.

"In an industry rife with iterative upgrades and "me-too" designs — and one in which high-end specs are quickly becoming commoditized at razor-thin margins — Samsung is attempting to show the premium end of the market a way forward," he writes.

We'll find out whether that approach is successful after August 2 when Samsung makes the Galaxy Note 7 official at an event in New York City.
