One of the major new features in the iPhone 8 was just confirmed thanks to two leaked images, which come courtesy of a Foxconn employee, who posted the photos on the Chinese social site Weibo.
The images in question show off an “engineering validation test” (EVT), which reveal the layered internals of the device such as the L-shaped battery, stacked logic boards, cameras and wireless charging pad. The pad is the big black circle in the middle of the device that is likely placed at the back of the device. This confirms the longstanding rumor that Apple will finally bring the charging technology to its latest iPhone.
During the manufacturing process of the devices, multiple test devices are made including an engineering validation test (EVT), design validation test (DVT) and production validation test (PVT). The device’s EVT tag may mean it was an early manufacturing prototype. Closer inspection of the image also reveals the device’s codename is Ferrari, a name that was leaked in documents last year.
Aside from the wireless charging function, an edge to edge OLED display and replaced Touch ID sensor is also expected in the iPhone 8. Apple’s display partner Samsung has already geared up OLED display production in preparation for the release of the iPhone 8 coming as soon as next month.
